KÆDE – CHROMA

Three craft makers. Three craft disciplines. Between them, more than 90 years’ hands-on experience with their respective materials. KÆDE/CHAIN is a dynamic dialogue between knit (Iben Høj), weave (Karin Carlander) and ceramics (Lea Mi Engholm) – a site-specific exhibition in a museum that has always had artistic exchange as its key focus. A focus that, in this particular constellation, is manifested as a chain of related fascination and profound craftsmanship.
The exhibition title CHAIN spark notions of stitches, anchor chains, chain reactions and the chained threads on a loom. A chain contains many links, and together they comprise a strong whole. Whilst artists usually work alone, in this case, Iben Høj, Karin Carlander and Lea Mi Engholm created their exhibition together, transforming their organic and inorganic materials into a common artwork of thread-light mineral deposits and earthbound floating textiles for the light-filled rooms of the Johannes Larsen Museum.
CHROMA challenges the museum’s usual subject area. Three individual makers, each an expert in her particular materials and expression, come together in a chain of site-specific objects created for the rooms and colour schemes of the museum. Three artistic and practical minds combine form, content, dimensions, sensuosity, communication and practical challenges in new ways, creating a Gesamtkunstwerk, a total work of art, that highlights contrasts, materiality and tactility.
